Fortunately, rain didn’t stop play for our soft launch on Monday 27th July…
Labour MP Tahir Ali visited endorsed our mission to tackle social poverty
For many elders in our community isolation and loneliness were only made worse during each wave of Covid. Some are still worried and are reluctant to venture outside unless its absolutely necessary. One response we are piloting at MECC is our Mobile Advice Service where we take to local streets and parks to offer free one-to-one advice on things such as benefits, state pensions, housing issues, council tax bills, energy bill rebates, home energy grants and other schemes to help everyone overcome the financial challenges looming large. Every week, local and national governments are offering new types of grants and rebates to help ordinary people – but its another thing getting this information to those who need it. While our offices on Court Road are always open to help we now will run this additional service across the city to bring our advice workers closer to clients who might not otherwise reach us.
Keep a look out for our distinctive truck – its big and purple – kind of hard to miss!
I would like to congratulate MECC Trust for continuing to do the important work on the ground and helping the people of Birmingham during these unprecedented challenging times… Tahir Ali MP for Labour
